🍃 A Special Rainforest-Themed Day for Sparkletots

On 6 December 2024, Sparkletots children took part in our Rainforest Adventure Learning Journey at Jewel Changi Airport. Surrounded by lush indoor greenery and the iconic Jewel environment, the children experienced a day of nature-focused learning, movement and meaningful connection with their teachers and friends.

The goal of this journey was simple: to let children explore, observe and enjoy nature in a safe, structured and engaging way – all within the unique setting of an indoor rainforest in the heart of an airport.

🎯 Learning Through Real Experiences

Throughout the Rainforest Adventure, children were encouraged to:

  • Notice different plants, textures and colours around them
  • Use their senses to observe the environment – what they see, hear and feel
  • Move safely in a public indoor space as part of a group
  • Listen to their teachers and follow simple, clear instructions
  • Share their thoughts and questions about what they saw

🌱 Walking Through Jewel’s Indoor Rainforest

Walking together through the lush indoor greenery, noticing leaves, walls of plants and the calming atmosphere.

Guided by their teachers and facilitators, the Sparkletots children explored the pathways around the indoor rainforest. They walked in neat lines, held onto their activity sheets and took their time to look closely at the surrounding plants.

Teachers prompted them with questions like:

  • “How many shades of green can you spot?”
  • “Are the leaves big or small?”
  • “Does it feel cooler here than outside?”

These small questions encouraged children to slow down and truly observe their surroundings.

👩‍🏫 Listening & Learning With Our Teachers

Pausing along the trail to listen carefully as teachers explain fun rainforest facts.

Along the way, the group paused at key spots so teachers could explain interesting features of the space – from the walls of greenery to the way light filtered in from above. The children stood closely together, listening carefully and raising their hands when they wanted to share what they noticed.

These moments helped build their:

  • Listening skills
  • Ability to focus in a busy environment
  • Confidence in speaking up and sharing ideas

📘 Little Explorers With Their Activity Sheets

Proudly holding their Rainforest Adventure activity sheets as they complete simple observation tasks.

Each child had a simple activity sheet to guide their journey. With help from teachers, they ticked off items they spotted, such as “big leaves”, “tall plants”, “long steps” or “cool, shady areas”.

This made the exploration more purposeful and gave them something concrete to bring home and talk about with their families.

📸 Smiles, Friendship & Group Memories

A joyful moment captured – friends, teachers and a rainforest backdrop all in one frame.

One of the highlights of the day was taking group photos together. The children stood with their classmates and teachers, smiling brightly against the backdrop of Jewel’s indoor rainforest.

These photos are more than just pictures – they are memories of courage, curiosity and shared experiences outside the classroom.

😊 Ending the Journey With Reflection & Calm

A quiet moment to sit, rest and talk about what they saw, heard and enjoyed most.

At the end of the trail, the children had a short cool-down and reflection time. They sat together and shared simple responses to questions like:

  • “What was your favourite part of the rainforest?”
  • “What did you see that was new to you?”
  • “How did you feel during the walk – excited, calm, happy?”

These reflections helped them organise their thoughts and deepen their connection to the experience.

🌟 What Our Sparkletots Learners Gained

Through this Rainforest Adventure, the children took home:

  • A greater appreciation for greenery and nature – even inside a building
  • Improved observation, listening and following-instruction skills
  • Confidence moving in a large, public environment
  • Stronger friendships through shared discovery
  • Happy memories to share with their families at home
