🍎 A Healthy, Happy Day for MK Alexandra

On 28 February 2025, MK Alexandra students took part in our Healthy Living Learning Journey held at the iconic Jewel Changi Airport. The children experienced what healthy living looks like in a real-world environment — moving, exploring, learning, and practising good habits together.

Instead of a classroom lesson, this programme turned Jewel’s wide indoor walkways and lush greenery into an active and engaging learning trail.

🎯 Learning Goals for Healthy Living

This Learning Journey helped children:

  • Understand the basics of healthy habits — food, movement, hydration, hygiene
  • Build body awareness (“What does my body need to feel good?”)
  • Practise safe walking and purposeful movement in a public space
  • Develop teamwork through fun group activities
  • Gain confidence outside the classroom environment

👟 Warming Up With Movement & Stretches

Starting the day with gentle stretches to wake up our bodies.

The morning began with simple warm-up actions — reaching, bending, twisting and marching in place. Children followed closely and giggled their way through the exercises.

This helped them understand that movement keeps the body strong and ready for learning.

🥗 Learning About Food & Energy

Healthy food learning session at Jewel
Discovering how healthy foods give us energy to learn and play.

Facilitators used colourful cards to help children identify fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains, and snacks. They discussed which foods provide long-lasting energy, and why water is essential — especially on walking days!

🚶‍♂️ Walking the Jewel Trail With Purpose

MK Alexandra students walking through Jewel
Walking in pairs, exploring Jewel’s indoor greenery, and practising road safety behaviours.

Children walked together through Jewel’s indoor rainforest pathways. They practised posture, pacing, safe distance, and taking turns along slopes and steps.

They also noticed how their heartbeat increased during more active sections — a natural introduction to understanding their own bodies.

🧼 Hygiene & Staying Well in Public Spaces

Children learning hygiene behaviours
Practising simple hygiene routines during toilet and snack breaks.

Being in a busy airport environment was the perfect opportunity to reinforce hygiene and self-care:

  • Wash hands before eating
  • Use hand sanitiser when needed
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Drink water regularly

🧡 Reflection: Listening to Our Bodies

At the end of the trail, children gathered for a “How Does My Body Feel?” reflection. Some felt energized, others a little tired — and all could express what helped them feel good throughout the day.

🌟 What MK Alexandra Students Took Home

The Healthy Living Journey taught them:

  • Movement is fun — and important
  • Healthy food gives energy for play and exploration
  • Hydration keeps us active and focused
  • Hygiene protects us and others
  • Learning outside the classroom builds confidence
