🍃 A Special Day at Jewel Changi Airport
Our Rainforest Adventure Learning Journey on 13 October took place in Jewel’s breathtaking indoor forest — a unique environment filled with lush greenery, tall canopy trees, and calming natural light.
From the moment our students arrived in their bright orange uniforms, they were excited to explore this magical setting with their friends and teachers. The day was filled with hands-on observation, guided learning, and memorable group activities.
🎯 What We Aimed to Experience
Through this Learning Journey at Jewel, children learned to:
- Observe plants, textures, and natural features within the indoor rainforest
- Understand how nature can exist within a modern airport environment
- Use their senses to notice colours, sounds, temperature, and surroundings
- Move confidently as a group in a large public indoor space
- Build social-emotional skills through teamwork and shared experiences
🧸 A Fun & Festive Welcome
The day began with a joyful surprise — two large, friendly rainforest-themed mascots dressed for Christmas, waiting to greet the children among the greenery.
Their reactions were priceless: some waved happily, some covered their faces playfully, and others studied the characters in amazement. It was a cheerful and heartwarming start to the adventure.
🌱 Guided Walks Through Jewel’s Lush Indoor Forest
The children walked together through the indoor rainforest pathways, surrounded by walls of greenery and tall tropical plants. Teachers encouraged them to notice:
- Different shapes and shades of leaves
- The sound of flowing water from nearby features
- How cool and refreshing the air felt among the plants
- The peaceful atmosphere despite being inside a busy airport
These moments helped children practise mindfulness, observation, and appreciation for nature within an urban setting.
📘 Becoming “Jewel Wilderness Explorers”
A highlight of the day was the moment each child received a Jewel Wilderness Explorer booklet. They proudly held it up as they gathered for a photo in front of the giant Christmas tree inside Jewel.
The booklet guided them through simple missions and observation tasks throughout the rainforest walk, helping them stay engaged and excited to learn.
👩🏫 Learning Moments Along the Trail
Teachers paused at interesting spots to explain unique plants, textures, and features of Jewel’s indoor rainforest. The children listened attentively, often raising their hands to share what they observed.
These learning pauses helped children:
- Connect what they saw to real knowledge
- Think critically about the environment
- Understand why greenery is important even in city spaces
📸 Friendship, Confidence & Togetherness
One of the most beautiful parts of the day was seeing the children walk closely together, supporting one another, and enjoying the adventure side by side.
For many of them, this journey strengthened teamwork, listening skills, and confidence navigating a public space.
💬 Sweet Words From Our Little Adventurers
At the end of the adventure, we heard adorable comments such as:
- “It looks like a jungle… but inside a mall!”
- “I love the Christmas tree and the plants!”
- “Can we come here again with my family?”
These joyful reflections showed how meaningful the experience was for them.

Beyond photos and booklets, children returned home with:
